Kenny and Sue Massey are founders, partner-owners of Massey’s Landscaping.
When I was in high school, I knew three things for certain. I loved children, pets, and being outdoors. There was also a strong underlying interest in business. The hint of taking an idea and turning it into a way to make a living seemed exciting to me. Ideas constantly pop into my head like bubbles rising to the surface of water. The ‘pops’ make ripples, and here we are today.
On March 4, 1986, our family became the emblem for the plight of farm families. We were forced to leave behind our dream of raising our five, young children on the Massey homestead. When life came crashing in... the green industry provided a window of hope, of opportunity for us to continue to work with the land. Read the Wisconsin State Journal news story about the loss of our family farm.
Much like today, with the unusual economy we are all faced with change.
Our roots are small family farms in small rural communities. Ranchers and farmers are a unique and gifted group of individuals in that they possess a wide-range of self-taught talents which unfortunately do not often transfer onto resumes. However, the work ethic is unmatched.
Even today, Kenny is the last soldier standing. (Even after a 20 hour snow removal shift.) It has been that work ethic, word-of-mouth referrals, and unrelenting drive to not give up that has brought us to where we stand today. Together.
As Massey’s Landscaping celebrates twenty years in the green industry, we have grown both as an organization, as well as individuals. When you own a business, you are married to that business, much like farming/ranching. It has stretched us beyond comprehension. We are grateful beyond words for the many opportunities that you, our family/friends/clients have presented to us, and believed in us. There are no words to describe the elation an artist feels the moment their creation finds the perfect home! It is the journey!
